The four-day orientation programme for 33 newly appointed Registrars and Chief Magistrates closed today at the Judicial Training Institute at Nakawa, Kampala.
Supreme Court's Hon. Lady Justice Stella Arach Amoko, who also doubles as the chairperson of the JTI Governing Council, officiated at the induction closing ceremony and awarded certificates to the successful participants.
"The main purpose of the induction is to equip you with the necessary basic knowledge and skills in order to prepare you to effectively execute your new roles and responsibilities," said Hon. Lady Justice Amoko.
She commended JTI for organizing a successful orientation for the judicial officers.
The function was, among others, attended by JTI's new Registrar, HW Isaac Muwata.
JTI's Executive Director, Hon. Justice Dr Henry Peter Adonyo, said that training is a continuous process and encouraged the participants to read widely. "Judicial work is not a part time job. It is for life, and if you do not read you will make mistakes and that is all that will be left to remember of you," he said
He urged them to take all they had learnt and put it to use in their different jurisdictions. Hon. Justice Dr. Adonyo further said JTI would organize more trainings to empower the judicial officers.
Hon.Lady Justice Amoko said the interactions would provide officers with legal developments and the use of information technology to enhance their judicial work.
She underscored the importance of some topics such as management of sessions and Ethics and Integrity. "This is the core business of the courts. A session can succeed or collapse if it is not properly managed." she said.
She also called upon the Judicial officers to desist from anything that may injure their character by strictly adhering to the judicial code of conduct.
She urged the participants to embrace the different forms of Alternative Dispute Resolution to give quick justice to the people.
Hon.Lady Justice Amoko further encouraged the judicial officers to consult and research widely to improve on their performance.
